The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang

The Poppy War (The Poppy War, #1)The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Poppy War is one of the grittiest grimdark entries I have read lately, even though it starts off outside of the normal area of grimdark the farther you go the darker it gets.

We begin with Rin a war orphan raised by drug dealers, who has been abused most of her life, passing the prestigious Keju exam to get in to the top academy in the land. At the academy she fights against social discrimination and is treated as an outcast. Once the war breaks out the book takes on extremely dark tones.

This debut was fast paced, bloody, and brilliant! I highly recommend this for grimdark enthusiasts.
